That bed that killed the man...


Exactly HOW did Ben get that bed rigged up so the canopy would come down automatically and kill the man, and try to do the same with Buck? I'm going to assume that wasn't a wide market trick of beds in 1960 and I also doubt that a lawyer could've made it himself. Does anybody have any ideas on this one?

I don't think they were worried too much about the whys and wherefores. But the idea was either a tribute to or a ripoff of the Wilkie Collins story "The Terribly Strange Bed."

I don't know what torture shop would stock such a bed, but I'm glad he found one. It made for a pretty suspenseful climax, and I like it when, even though the bad guy deserves it, you can still feel a measure of sympathy for him as it doesn't look like a pleasent way to go. The scene where Cy hears Dr. Zorba's muffled cries gets that point across very effectively.
