Seemed like a Scooby Doo mystery.

In that the villain was pretending to be a ghost. To get the money by driving them away from the mansion. But like in some, there was an actual ghost in the background.

Ironically enough the remake "Thir13en Ghosts" which is vastly different, happenes to have the same actor as Shaggy in it.

People have it backwards. The Scooby-Doo cartoons came afterwards. So, it's S-D mysteries that are like this one and perhaps others of the period. This is from 1960; S-D didn't arrive till a decade later.

Besides, this has only one teen girl and a little boy, so that takes it further away from the cartoons.

By the way, I was about 9 years old and my sister about 7 when we saw this in the theater, wearing the 3D glasses (paper and cellophane) that really weren't necessary, as this is a film that can be enjoyed without the 3D experience. I recall peeking above my glasses, just to see if there was a difference, and do not recall any startling changes. I still enjoy this film much more than the gruesome remake. Gore doesn't make horror better; that's just going for the grossout, as Stephen King phrases it.

Well, no one's ever going to say Scooby-Doo seems like 13 Ghosts because this was a dreadful and forgotten film. Scooby-Doo still remains popular 45 years after its inception. Since Scooby-Doo is infinitely more popular, it's correct to say this seemed like Scooby-Doo.

Having never watched the cartoon, I can't say if it resembles "13 Ghosts", which is far from forgotten. TCM airs it regularly, as recently as Friday the 13th.

I know of the cartoon only from clips advertising it though I did try to watch one of the live-action movies. I'm not tempted to watch it, but I'll continue viewing "13 Ghosts" and enjoying William Castle's brand of horror.

Scooby-Doo the original, is well worth watching. Latter things, like those with Scrappy and 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo and such, well not so much.
