The reason why Fred and his Mother-in-Law don't get along...

Is because they're exactly alike.

Both are loud, pushy, self-righteous, critical, etc...

They say that men marry women that remind them of their mothers and women marry men like their fathers.
But in this case Wilma married a man just like her mother.
I'll bet Wilma took after her father...patient but perhaps a little sarcastic in the face of their spouse.

You couldn't have said that better.
Indeed Fred and his Mother-in-law have simular personalities. And that is simply why they can't stand eachother.
My grandmother(my mother's mom)and my father have simular personalities, and they never really got along either.
It seems to be quite a common situation.

It also seems that Fred and BammBamm don't get along too well in general.I've often sensed a slight hostility between the two of them.Which puts Pebbles in a situation somewhat simular to her mother's now that her and BammBamm are married.

Seems to go from one generation to the next.

It was just a thing of Mothers in Law...

I always got the impression that BammBamm saw Fred as a bully who picked on his father ~Barney~ and he didn't like that. It seems like there was a time or 2 when BammBamm was ready to protect Barney when Fred started to get violent with him.

Create a society in which you would like to live, not knowing what you're going to come into it as.

If that is the reason you think that they would get along great
