Miklos Rozsa
Both 'World" and Ben-Hur were released in 1959, but after watching this on AMC last night, what gives? Apparently Rozsa figured he could just use the same score twice. Am I the only one who perceives this?

shareRozsa's music is beautiful. It did seem very similar to me too!
shareYes, you're the only one.
shareI just heard the score recently and am about to see the film again - for the first time in nearly thirty years...
The score does sound like a lot of other Rozsa scores. Not so much "Ben Hur" really... I was disappointed when I heard the score because it seemed so... ordinary. I mean, here's a film about the end of the world with a cast of three - set mostly in the canyon-like streets of a vast, dead city and the score could easily be to any heavy melodrama. I'm fond of Rozsa's work and I like this score very much but I can't help thinking he was the wrong man for the job in this case.
Maybe when I see the film again I'll think otherwise.
Well... I've watched the film and I haven't changed my mind. Except to the extent that as the film IS really just a melodrama with a message - the score does no harm.
