Sure! I'll e-mail. One of the 20 best films ever made.

I got a reply; they are hoping to release it as soon as they can but can't confirm a release date yet.

reply

If they try hard enough I'm sure Warner can do the DVD by the end of this year.

reply

When you think about it, Warner must do this DVD partly as their recent re-make, "I am Legend" has triggered off so much interest in it.

Could anyone post a thread on this forum when the DVD is out? I'm not sure at all I will hear about the release in France :)

reply

it will be posted here alright! A large proportion of the world including myself will be jumping up and down, cheering and opening bubbly!

reply

Warner must be doing their best, I mean this is one of most requested films ever. www.tcm.com shows way above 2,000 consumer votes in the U.S (region 1).

the DVD? Great!!!

reply

Now Warner in London are saying they have no plans to release the DVD! What goes on???

reply

Oh no! Warner (London) told me a few months ago that they would release the DVD as soon as they were able to. Damn! This is typical of Warner. By comparison, whenever Paramount, Sony or 20th Century Fox in London promise a DVD, they keep their word and release it, but not Warner!

reply

That is so true!!

reply

It is, Warner do not stick to their word and they're very slow on the UK releases. I mean, look how long they took to release "Westworld" with Yul Bryner for God's sake; I bought it Region 1 from U.S in 2001 and the London office released it late last year! I bet Warner in the U.S bring WFD out long before London do.

reply

Not an unworthy comment, bps! I reckon Warner in London are the slowest in the UK at releasing classics on DVD. Last year they also told me when I phoned that they were aware of how popular this film is and were planning the DVD. Now all they can say is it's not scheduled! Let us now e-mail Warner and ask what the hell they are playing at! the e-mail address:

I believe the reason the DVD is not being released is because of Ted Turner here in the states who bought and owns the rights to all of the Metro Goldwyn Mayer movies (The original owners of "The World the Flesh and the Devil") and their TV series up to 1986.

Anything beyond that year is still owned by Metro Goldwyn Mayer, from what I understand.

MGM with its sister company United Artists has launched as of last fall a new 24hr. free over the air Movie/TV channel here called "This" TV, but will probably never show "The World the Flesh and the Devil or any of the TV series like "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.", due to Mr.Turner.

As everyone says, this is a terrfic film. I've just downloaded a dvd copy from my letterboxed laserdisc and it looks pretty decent. Not perfect but looks and sounds pretty good. Contact me at [email protected] for more information.
