TCM to the rescue. . . Again!
This gem of a film airs on TCM 1/2/08, 9am.
shareDamn I missed it!
shareOops, typo. 1/21
shareOh, you lucky people who get TCM... I wish our cable company carried it. Even Netflix doesn't have this movie!
shareWrong movie, On the 21st TCM is showing Fesh and the Devil, from 1927, starring Greta Garbo,
The world, the flesh, and the devil is nowhere to be seen.
But right after that they are showing belefonte in Odds against tomorrow (1959) about a bank heist
Dear me for God's sake dont go getting people all excited, erect and frothing at the mouth only for then to see a Greta Garbo poor , dull Flesh Film from 1927.
Its the 1959 with Mel Ferrer and Inger Stevens we want.

Heck -
I've seen the Garbo flick - and it's a different kind of classic. Let's not put it down because the movie (unfortunately) shares the same title.
The Belafonte film is a great one! I hope that one day it gets released on DVD, so that it gets the recognition it deserves.

The TCM Web site has this description of the screening:
World, The Flesh, And The Devil, The (1959)
A black man, a white woman and a racist are the only people left alive after a nuclear disaster. Cast: Harry Belafonte, Inger Stevens, Mel Ferrer. Dir: Ranald MacDougall. BW-95 mins, TV-PG, Letterbox Format
The movie is part of a lineup of movies with black stars. It would be a huge mistake to run the 1927 one instead. I think TV Guide (or whoever sent the info) made a mistake with the title. If you want to see it, I think you should set your VCRs/DVRs.
Lucky you folks, it is indeed the harry belafonte movie that is on right now.
"We're going to need a bigger boat..."
I'm watching it right now and dvr-ing it now!
shareI'm watching it too but was a little late finding it. I missed the first 30 minutes and am hooked. Can't wait to see how this one plays out! Lucky you recording it. I'll have to find a copy to watch what I missed.
shareI am not sure why people are so thrilled to see this relic. It use to come on regular tv a lot before the advent of cable. The movie coped out and never took any chances. I wanted to see if I had missed something since I haven't seen it in a few years. NO.
sharei want a copy of this movie. bekochan can you make this into a dvd or vhs for me i have some out of print dvds for trade [email protected]
shareWel its on TCM Right now and its not listed on Directv Listings. Interesting and REally Great movie. 1/21/08

what a great movie! long live TCM!!
shareFortunately I subscribe to TCM's playing guide so I knew this was right and the TV guide was wrong when it said it was the Greta Garbo movie (which, by the way, is great and not dull or boring- but the title is strangely similar).
This was SO SO good, I'm SO glad I watched it!!!
"Just close your eyes...but keep your mind wide open."
This was incorrectly listed in the Cablevision onscreen channel guide as well. It was on TCM's website as airing, but someone must've typed in the wrong title at some point. But if you did the math and noticed that other Belafonte movies were airing afterwards, it didn't make sense to air the Garbo flick. I'm glad I DVR'd it just in case. Maybe it will finally make it's way to home video-- possibly when "I Am Legend" comes out, to cash in? And anyone who wonders why anyone else would dare want to see this movie:
-It's not on DVD, so it's the only way to see it, esp. if you've never seen it.
-It's thematically similar to several other "last man on earth" type movies, including Will Smith in "I Am Legend" (the press/reviews of which curiously make NO mention of the similar "World, Flesh, and the Devil"-- a black actor in a deserted NYC? It's worth noting/comparing).
-It's a movie. People like to watch movies.
FINALLY...someone made mention of the I am Legend connection...I was blown away by the similarities...NYC...the manniquins (sp?). Did they combine the book (1954 - I am Legend) and this movie to make the 2007 I am Legend??? I wonder???
shareWhat about The Quiet Earth? That was set in Australia I think, and it was three people-a white girl, a white man, and a black man.
