Interesting that you would think Ferrer was the racist. The information for this film mentioned. "A man, a woman, and a bigot survive after an apocalypse/war".
Seeing Belafonte was headline, I assumed Ferrer would be the bigot, but as it turns out, Belafonte is the bigot, as he is the one unwilling to overcome the predisposed prejudices he was brought up with. He wouldn't touch the white woman despite her advances, he wanted to provide the sermon for her wedding, but not be the groom, he wanted Ferrer to chase her after the argument to be with her, so they could be the white couple, instead of bi-racial as she had fallen in love with him.
