Great Movie!

I've watched it 7 times in one day. And while at first it seems like another terrible 50's sci-fi flick, one can tell that it is desperately *trying* to be good, and that it's not just out to make money.

The point of making this film was provide a feature for the bottom half of double bill, the true meaning of the word B-Movie. Fortunately for the makers of this film they were able to sell it to Warner Bros who had US distribution rights to the second Godzilla movie. I can only guess that Warners didn't have another monster/sci fi film to release with Godzilla movie and grabbed TFOS at cheap price.

Far from great, but it is entertaining. How 'bout the music?! The spooky score is the only thing in "Teenagers" that always comes across well. Of course, since this music is more appropriate for true horror, it sounded even better when it was re-used in "Night of the Living Dead".

It was cheesy fun. I had good laughs. Lobster shadow. Grandpa on the otherside of the road. Many other things and Dawn Bender was lovely to look at

This is one of those rare movies I could watch WITHOUT Joel and the bots at the bottom of the screen. It has a neat, campy, 50's sci-fi appeal to it. And I just loved the desintegrator ray, with the collapsing skeleton. Heck, with a hollywood budget, it might have become a classic.

reply

Yeah the ray gun leaving a skeleton was a memorable effect- I loved that as a kid. The film obviously had something going for it if some of us still remember it! I'll take the corny, cheesy monster movies from that era over the real uninspired dreck on the Sci-Fi Channel today. I would imagine Mystery Science Theatre had a field day with it but they also spoofed The Creature from the Black Lagoon which was heresy!!

reply

Mike and the bots actually "spoofed" Revenge of the Creature, the less-than-adequate
second movie of the series (although it was pretty interesting to see a young Clint Eastwood
in something other than that episode of Maverick). I doubt they'd have touched the first one.

reply

Yeah that sounds right. I think in one scene the Creature entered a house by opening a screen door instead of just busting through the darn thing! Mike etc probably had something funny to say about that.

reply

I remember that scene. Mike said, impersonating the Creature, "Okay, I'll
come in for a night cap." Tee-hee.

My favorite riff from that episode came near the beginning of the film. The
captain of the boat and two of the main characters were sitting in some room
on the boat, and Servo starting singing "Show me the way to go home" like
that scene in Jaws. Good times.

Hey guys just figured I'd post on here since there seem to be a few fans out there. I'm starting work on a TFOS project and I'm keeping a blog about it, and the site should be up soon (my internet has just been too bad recently for me to upload the layout).

Anyhoo, of those of you who might have an interest in the film, the url is http://teenagersfromouterspace.blogspot.com Thanks!

Indeed, I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed it, mostly because the plot didn't sound like it'd be that good (funny how things work out like that for these movies).
