She is WONDERFUL in this. I'm not a fan. I agree with Emma Thompson, who doesn't like Audrey Hepburn's work and describes her as having too much whimsy, too twee, too precious and fake. I agree. I watched this waiting for that Audrey to surface. It never did. Instead I saw an actress who, I felt, understood this role completely, and did a stellar job. Not a false note. Fred Zimmerman is also a wonderful director. The best, the most intelligent director of "epics". He gets the epic sweep, while keeping the human side, and his movies are intelligent. This movie is terrific. You feel as if you're living the life with the characters. Audrey Hepburn is a movie star, but in this, she comes across as the nun she's playing. Excellent movie, excellent performance. Rooted for her all the way.
