Pretend that the story isn't impossible and this is a great movie!
...yep...

The Implausibility of the story is utterly immaterial - it's a great movie, period!
sharePrecisely :)
shareBeneath the earth's crust lies magma, not living creatures from the past
There's no such thing as aliens
It is unlikely humanoid robots will ever exist
Dinosaurs exist nowhere in the world today
Gorillas aren't twenty feet tall
There's no place over the rainbow
There are no ghosts, no magic, no super powers
People can't fly
Sometimes, you have to stretch the truth to have a good show.

Wow! You must be the most popular movie date ever!
You were borned in your shellnut without any free logic, didn't you?share
I was saying that sometimes you have to stretch the imagination to have a good show. Unfortunately, stuck at the bottom of the post it looked like a signature or something.
share'First Men in the Moon' was pretty implausible, but it's still great science fiction. So is 'Journey'.
shareOh, absolutely! Who cares if the science is preposterous? If anything, that only adds to the overall charm!
shareI loved this film as a child, and just saw it for the first time in at least 35 years. Agreed with Owlwise - the science is utterly preposterous. Can you imagine the final escape from the center - being shot out a perfect tube going straight from the center of the earth to a volcano in Italy. There is no way they would survive being shot at that speed out of a volcano and plopping into the sea (or conveniently in a tree as Pat Boone did). This overlooks the problem of being pushed all that distance by molten lava just a few feet below the rock vessel they are lying in and didn't fry to a crisp.
But the real winner was the notion of finding an ocean - AN OCEAN down in the center of the earth. An ocean complete with tides (which are caused by the moon, after all, so would not be found down in the center of the earth). But if they are in the center of the earth, how could there possibly be an ocean with a surface - obviously there would be no up and down at the center of the earth.
Compared to that, the giant lizards are positively plausible.
I like the concept of there being an ocean in the center of the earth. What a cool idea.
"facts are stupid things" - Ronald Reagan
I think the thing with peopel dont liking its science is that usually Jules Vernes scientific methods were very precise and most of what he wrote about we have in popular use at the moment (for example submarines). However this time his science was not even close, its as if he somehow made a fluke book (and yeah forget mysterious island movie, its an insult to the book)

Applied Science? All science is applied. Eventually.
Er...this is why it's called "fantasy."
shareI was entertained by this movie, and thought it was similar to other, movies of its type back in the fifties.Pat boone was terrible as was james mason, though, and the scot accents were so fake.I liked Arlene Dahl in this movie, she gave a good performance, and also Gertrude, won me over.
shareIt's a good movie.
