The big question besides will it be a great transfer, is will it include special features like alternate takes that where in the Laserdisc release, and maybe the deleted Pat Boone songs (not on Laserdisc).

From what I have been able to determine the deleted Pat Boone songs ("The Faithful Heart") are lost with no existing copies having emerged. If they did I would guess it would be from a badly faded release print. I purchased a 16mm Kodachrome print with just magnetic sound a few years on eBay hoping that this strange format might have included the songs but alas it did not.

Let us hope that Twilight Time has their hands on a better transfer than their last release from 20th Century Fox. Apparently the blu-ray release of Demetrius and the Gladiators is a high priced train wreck.

This is really enticing news, haristas, thanks. Where did you find out about it?

I've looked at the Screen Archives website, though, and can find no mention of it.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

They are as of now, April 13, 2012, taking pre-orders at www.screenarchives.com

The pity is that the transfer is so soft. Although it is substantially better than the DVD of this title, it is not much better than my best DVDs. I would have thought that they could have located better elements from which to make a HD master.

This limited edition title has now gone out of print!

Madam, it's the best I could do on such short notice...

"Twilight's" MO is to release a limited quantity of films on blu-ray at outrageous prices to be snatched up by idiots before quickly going OOP. Basically, if you choose not to pre-order or you miss all of the hullabaloo, you're looking at costs in the $60-$70 range.

Screw these a$$holes and the morons who support them.

Released on Blu-ray in Australia!

I missed out on the TT release (I hesitated too long over both the high price and the high international shipping costs!), but I'm very happy to say that Fox has released the same disk master on Blu-ray here in Australia — region free, and for less than half the price of the TT release.

Like the TT version, the audio is DTS-HD MA 4.0, it has no extras beyond the trailer and the isolated score track (in lossless stereo), and it offers the same "soft" transfer from a 2nd-generation print ... but it's fantastic to have in high-def! This film has been a favourite of mine since childhood.

Anyone who doesn't feel like paying the "collector" prices for an OOP TT copy, and wants to check out the Australian release, will find it at http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvd-genres/action-adventure/journey -to-the-centre-of-the-earth-1959-blu-ray/689680. That site will ship overseas, but I warn you that Australian postage is quite expensive.

I too have loved this movie from many (mostly TV) viewings since childhood, and last night enjoyed my TT Blu-ray for the first time. Yes the picture is soft in places, outstanding in some, awful in others, but the sound is fantastic throughout.

I did NOT recall that Arlene Dahl was so astonishingly beautiful in this movie. Nor do I recall ever before resenting that while Pat Boone was shown bathing in an underground waterfall, the lovely Ms. Dahl was not.

Sigh.

Journey to the Center of the Earth will come out again by Twilight Time on March 10, 2015 as a new 4k restoration. It can be ordered at www.screenarchives.com.

I just ordered the film on 2/26/15 for $29.95 + $4.35 shipping and handling = $34.30.
