great memories

Hi, I saw this when it first came out, it was a fantastic movie, in 1959, still today its the best ever version, the soundtrack by Bernard Herman still holds its own too, Mason plays his part with such passion , no wonder we want to go with him, I love this movie , happy memories.

no offense, but imho this is the worst movie ive ever seen.

reply

thats because your looking at it in 2006, if you were around in 1959.

Don't worry about that other guy, lightcloud - this movie rocks, no matter what the year. I could watch it again and again.

First saw this on tv as a little kid back in the seventies. A thoroughly entertaining movie from start to finish. It sure beats most of the garbage that passes for family entertainment now.

I hadn't seen this movie since it was first released. It was thrilling to see when I was a kid in a big dark movie theatre. Before I watched it again recently, I wondered what I'd think about it now, and, to my surprise, I still enjoyed it very much. The film restoration on the current DVD release will knock your socks off. The story just takes off and moves right along with one little (or big) surprise after another.

Just watched it after a very long break since the last time I saw it. It's still excellent fun with the kind of adventure seldom seen in movies today.

I saw this movie when it came out in 1959 and I was about 10 years old. It seemed quite real and believeable back then. I will buy the DVD eventually.

Just for the record, I'm 17 and I believe that this is one of the finest movies I have ever seen. I am a tremendous fan of Jules Verne and H.G. Welles and I will watch any one of these movies over the garbage that is shown today. Someday, I hope that someone comes up and changes things so that hollywood puts out first rate, original, good, clean and non offensive entertainment!

I was just thinking back on movies I watched as a child and I remembered watching this..I'm a teenage girl and have no idea why I liked it so much, but I did. I don't remember it much, but it brings back childhood memories.

Very much agree. When I've seen other movies come out with the same title I tune in to watch and am always dissapointed---I don't think anyone will ever top this version.

I,unfortunately, did not see this in the theaters but rather in my teens in the mid '70s on a Sunday afternoon on Ch.7 out of Buffalo,NY.

I wasn't born until 73 but saw this on TV in the late 70s and loved it. Been watching it ever since. Great movie. It's such a classic. It makes me laugh at the people who claim they think this movie is boring.
