Continuing its recent spate of releases of the original soundtracks of Paramount pictures, Intrada music is releasing the soundtrack of The Jayhawkers on CD. The disc contains all the original music, retrieved from the Paramount vaults, though a couple of surviving cues are in mono instead of stereo. Liner notes included. Price is $19.95 at Screen Archives Entertainment (screenarchives.com).
Hey hobnob53, I see you and I are hobnobbing again on yet another thread. And I, too, had come here to post about the new limited availability of this excellent Intrada CD release of Jerome Moross' soundtrack music from THE JAYHAWKERS!
THE BIG COUNTRY is one of my most favorite movies, and the contribution of Jerome Moross' unusually excellent score is one of the reasons why. So while I have never seen THE JAYHAWKERS!, the announcement of that CD release made me hope that his scoring another Western only the following year might have inspired the composer to strike gold yet again -- and did he ever! This music has inspired me to track down the film; just as the album for BIG COUNTRY did years ago, as I now recall.
Many of the Intrada label's CDs of older soundtracks are limited releases. Depending entirely on level of demand for JAYHAWKERS! there might be no more than 3,000 or even as few as 1,000 copies pressed, before the title goes permanently out of print. So all you fans of this film who appreciate its music, be aware that a beautiful-quality (predominantly) stereo CD of this score is available -- for now!
Hiya ScopeWatcher, sorry I beat you to it! But you added a lot of info I neglected. Thanks!
As I noted on an earlier thread here, and as you know, The Jayhawkers is also now on DVD, courtesy Olive Films, which is doing so much to issue unreleased titles from the Paramount vault. Interesting that both the CD and DVD came out at about the same time.
The complete OST of The Big Country has also just come out on CD, and that's a great disc too. It's a limited edition of, I believe, 3000, and retails at $19.95.
