Real Tear-Jerker

This is one of the saddest films ever. Critics can say it was corny but it had many real elements: 1-parent families with a mother obsessed with success at any cost neglecting her daughter, a bi-racial child who feels ashamed and it ruins her life while her over-protective mother does not know what to do, a devoted boyfriend of a widow with a daughter who gets involved with the widows' daughter in a good way not realizing that the daughter has fallen for him. The film shows how well-meaning parents can ruin lives of children and likewise how children can ruin lives of well-meaning parents. Very depressing film leaving the viewer with little hope and many shed tears; a wonderful film. Oscar noms for both Koehner and Moore, whob recently passed-away at age 99.

I just watched it for the 3rd or 4th time on TCM and I cried like a baby again.

It is so sad, and I can imagine there have been many lives in America like Sarah Jane's that involved so much inner conflict and sadness because of societal constraints.

This one's a tear jerker. I've seen it twice & I cried harder this time than the last time. Very sad movie. It's even sadder when we realize people actually had to live this type of horror based on their outward looks at one time. To be judged on something you can't help, your outward physical features. It still goes on with stop & frisk in NYC I hear. We've made progress but not enough.

My 2 cents..
