Guys, would it make any diff if your girlfriend was part-black

This question is probably academic but I'll ask anyway. Guys, today in 2012, would it make any difference to you if your hot-babe white girlfriend suddenly told you that she was part-black? Maybe she'll say something like, 1/8th, or 1/16th, or, 1/32nd. Or maybe she might be, 1/4th. Would it make any difference to you? Speaking for myself, it wouldn't make any difference. Once you're in love, well, you're in love, right? Besides, if you've already been in bed with her, you already know it doesn't make any difference.

If it did make a difference, to whom in this country today would it make any difference? I wonder if there are still any self-proclaimed, blue-blood, snooty high-class families out there for which social image means more than human substance and this might make a difference if their sons tried to marry a white chick with afro background?

Depends on which part of her is black, I suppose.

My first serious romance was with a woman of color when we both were in the army back in 1967

I had dated a number of black and "part-black" women during my single years.
I also dated a few Asian ladies back then as well.
Oh yes my family didn't like it my sister made some thouble that caused me and an Asian lady to break up. Anyhow I always went my own way.

Now? No.

In 1959, I suppose it might have.

But if she was as smokin' hot as Susan Kohner, who cares??

I would say it would be a problem for some white men if their girlfriend was part black. Look at the statistics, most white men don't date outside their race as much as black men. Upper class, well to do white men wouldn't date or marry someone black or part black because it would be looked down upon within their circle. Lower class white men without much to lose wouldn't mind dating someone black or part black. How many well to do white men do you know who are married to black or part black women? White men are taught dating outside their race is a step down, that's why most won't do it. They don't mind sleeping with a black woman but dating is a no no.

I think it would make a huge difference if you found out your girl was part black, you would see her differently, you would start thinking how will your kids turn out, and you will worry about how your friends and family will treat you. You never know how racist you are until you're faced with such a problem. I wouldn't be surprised if some guy wouldn't suggest for their part black girlfriend to keep passing for his sake. This may be the 21st century, there may be a black president (who is part black) but black is still a problem for people.

This is very sad. Because people care more about what others think and say about them then their own true feelings and desires. Race shouldn't be a factor in who you love. Date whoever you like, and stop caring about what others think or will think.

The new mayor of New York, Bill De Blasio, is married to a sister and they have two nearly grown children. Also Edgar Bronfman, who was head of the Seagram Wine Cooler empire, was married to a sister and they had 3 children, all fully grown now (one of his sons is married to rapper MIA, and they also have a little one themselves.)

Yeah, people still have issues with interracial marriages or relationships, but the truth is, is was going on during slavery and still is----I have some interracial marrriages in my family, so it's no big deal to me---I'm black,BTW.) Also, it depends on where you live and whether you live in a multicultural area or not (areas like that for obvious reasons, tend to be more accepting of IMs.

You can't even compare now to back in 1959, when the movie was made, and even less to 1933, when the book was written. It's completely different and, yeah, it absolutely would matter if you found out in 1959 that your girlfriend was black. It wouldn't have been socially acceptable at all.

My mother had a black boyfriend in the early 70s and people didnt accept that at all.

I live in Sweden if that matters. I don't think anyone I know would actually care. Some people might have a problem with it, but not anyone I associate with.

First, unlike Imitation of Life, you can tell right away if a man or a woman is part black (in practically every case.) So if you found someone like that attractive, it probably wouldn't surprise you to know they are part black.

The question is, do you find half-black people attractive? Would anyone answer that question honestly if it immediately branded them a racist? Doubtful.

Actually, that's not always true---you can't always look at someone and tell what they are, and even if you do make a good guess, that person may not even regard themselves as whatever you think are not, just because they look a certain way. So,no, that is NOT always the case.

Thank you. The misunderstanding about how race manifests genetically astounds me.

No, no difference. But I do wonder about the intelligence of people who identify primarily with their non-white ancestry even when it's only one-quarter or less.
