I Don't Blame Sarah Jane!!!
Why should she take a back seat to others in Life based on the color of her skin?

It goes deeper. Why should she not have the choice to work in a strip club, regardless of her skin color. Nothing horrible is going to happen to her.
shareIt doesn't matter, she still shouldn't have treated her mother that way. At that age, whose mom doesn't get on their nerves? And things do have a way of coming out Plus she wanted to pretend to be white for what? To work in sleazy clubs not to get a real career.
"Who lives, who dies, who tells your story"
Well of course she realized to late she shouldn't have treated mom like that, thus one of the most famous funeral scenes in cinema history.
As far a career realize newspaper classified ads for jobs still said things like "White" or "Colored" still in 1959. You don't really think she aspired to work there do you?
Ephemeron.
A hot girl like her can not be blamed for anything.
shareI totally agree! The whole race situation in this movie is ugly. Poor Sarah Jane and poor Annie! I like how Sarah Jane's only ticket to a better life is the colored teachers college. What if she doesn't want to be a teacher? Thank God times have changed.
shareShe was half white, and looked completely white. Yet she was expected to take a back seat to others in life in spite of the color of her skin.
