Mazletof?

What the heck does that mean? Otto said it to Mrs Van Pels (Daan) when she flirted with him.

And I'm not too keen on this adaptation, as its not really close to Anne's story, and Anne Frank:The Whole Story is too depressing. Let's see what the new five-part drama is like on BBC One starting on 5th January.

Anyway please answer my question:

What does Mazletof mean?

Here's the definition of the phrase: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&defl=en&q=define:Mazel+Tov&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title

I do agree with you on this though, and am also looking forward to seeing the BBC production. Hope it's better.

Thanks, kcox06!

I think the BBC Drama is BRILLIANT, I mean Elllie Kendrick is a bit iffy but quite good since this is her first big role I think. Felicity Jones as Margot is amazing. I like Fliss though because she was in another of my favourite shows, The Worst Witch.

you must have not seen Fiddler On The Roof. Mazletof is Yeddish for "To Life", a common jewish toast.

I believe it's "L'chaim" which means "to life".

"Mazel tov" means "good luck "congratulations", as far as I can tell , it's an all-purpose "wish" of that sort.

"Qui conduisait la voiture?"

Lunarose is completely correct--Otto meant it here as a sarcastic "congratulations."

reply

Mozel Tov means congratulations. la Chaim means to life.
