IMDB - Director listing

Why is the director listed as Bansi Chandragupta? This movie doesn't show up on the list of movies directed by Ray either. Did Bansi Chandragupta ever direct any movie?

reply

It's completely idiotic whoever changed it (IMDb works like wikipedia--anyone can change things). Satyajit Ray was the director of this film. Bansi Chandragupta had never even held a camera! Chandragupta was merely the production designer on the film, not its director. In all my years of looking at IMDb, this is the most egregious mistake.

I submitted Ray's name; I doubt it was my submission (it only took a few days) but now it's back to having Ray as Writer and Director, thank God.

There are a lot of things I'd like inside my head less than hannibal lechter. Isn't this damn film Indian? Why doesn't it give the relese date sepcifically for India?

During the presentation of the new Criterion restoration of the films last week on TCM, there was a discussion of the film or films actually premiering at the Museum of Modern Art, not in India. These were Ray's first films, and because of lack of funding and name they did not premiere in India, but at MoMA for a festival. I'm sorry that I don't remember more. Wikipedia has more about the connection of the Museum of Modern Art to the Trilogy, including funding, but not this specific detail.
