You're thinking of "Cam Allison". The storyline had it that Allison, young, eager...maybe a little too eager; had been transferred from the "St. Louis bureau" a few months earlier. The character was played by Anthony George who actually wanted out of his contract to take a co-starring role on "Checkmate", which debuted on CBS in 1961, so he got the traditional TV send-off. He was killed and died in Ness' arms. The episode was "The Frank Nitti Story". In the episode titled "The Tri-State Gang", Untouchable Lamarr Kane (Chuck Hicks) was killed, along with "Big Bill Phillips", played by Alan Hale, who went on to play the "Skipper" on "Gilligan's Island".
Thanks for posting, guys. I did watch the "Tri-State Gang" episode on DVD not long ago (I've been Netflixing them, since I can't quite afford to buy them.) I remember the scene now. It didn't stand out in my memory, because poor Lamar King never seemed to get a lot of screen time in the short period of time he was around.
I'm watching "The Tri-State Gang" on DVD as I write this. Bendix makes a good gangster! ("You knucklehead!) The climax was filmed at the old LA Zoo. Later, Untouchables producer Quinn Martin filmed the climax of the final Fugitive episode at the new LA Zoo, which replaced the original. (Fewer cages.)
One other Untouchable died off-screen. In the first-season episode, "The Underground Railway," Ness mentions that an Untouchable named George Dayton was murdered by the villain of that episode, bank robber Frank Halloway (Cliff Robertson).
Plus, there was another unnamed Untouchable who was mentioned by Eliot Ness as being killed by Martin Rawlings in the Season Four episode "The Pea" so counting him along with Lamar Kane, Cam Allison, and George Dayton brings the total to four.
Fascinating. I've gotta check that one out, I don't recall them mentioning another one was killed. "The Pea" is a favorite of mine, because of Frank Gorshin's performance, for one, but I don't remember that at all. I will check out my old copy, but hopefully this season will eventually be released on DVD.
I wasn't paying attention to the lesser characters, but I noticed in an episode that comes after the Tri-State Gang on the DVD, who pops up in the credits of this later episode but good old Lamar Kane who had been killed in the earlier show.
