Did anyone see the TZ 60th Anniversary Event in the theater?
I did, and was wondering what other people thought.
shareI did, and was wondering what other people thought.
shareThe last time I tried to see a classic film at the theater was Casablanca in February and the audience was so noisy I decided to limit myself to IMAX films.
I’m curious how good the quality of the print was though.
Luckily there were maybe 60 people in the audience.
Print was pretty good. not super hd, but then again this show was made for television 60 years ago.
Six episodes, all solid choices but not necessarily what I'd choose myself, plus a mini feature about Serling. Over three hours of sitting - my only real complaint is I could have used an intermission. I was itching to get up by the end despite my love for TZ.
"this show was made for television."
Actually, TZ was shot (beautifully) on 35 MM film, the same way MOVIES were. Since the negatives were
properly restored, the eps should've looked fantastic (although not in wide-screen).
I chose not to bother when "The Hitchhiker" wasn't included (they chose only Serling originals, not his
adaptations).
Yeah, but TV shows of the time were stage-y, not having the same level of visual detail in sets, etc. that feature films would have had. And an unfortunate side effect of showing older TV shows in high definition is that certain details that were never meant to be noticed in the first place on a little CRT TV become painfully evident, such as seam lines in alien makeup.
share It has nothing to do with TV. Improved 35 MM is improved 35 MM. Look at the seam lines one now sees
in the "skies" in "The Wizard of Oz." This was not noticeable in previous home video offerings.
TZ had great cinemaphotography, and in its restored state, looks better than it ever has. Even on the big screen.
I remember in 1994 when Star Trek The Next Generation was transitioning from TV to their first theatrical film they had to redo some of the sets. For instance the large technical drawing of the Enterprise in engineering was redone because the original TV version had pictures of ducks in it that you wouldn’t be able to see on TV but would be noticeable on the big screen.
shareThey should have left the ducks in. That would have been awesome!
shareI didn't know about this. :(
shareI know I am super late to this. I did attend the TZ 60th Anniversary here in California. It was nice to catch it on the big screen. My theater was empty, with only me and two other people that weren't with me. I cannot believe that only 3 people sat in this large stadium seating theater. I thought there would be a little more people attending. We had a great time though.
They ended up leaving after the episodes during the documentary portion and I was just there by myself.
The documentary would have been my favorite part. Was it a new one, or one that had been included on the DVDs? I wasn't able to go because I was at a conference, but I totally would have gone if I'd been home.
shareIt was a new one. "Remembering Rod Serling" that's the name of it. His daughter Jodi was interviewed for it, which was great. I felt that it was missing something and that it was missing Marc Scott Zicree. He would have been amazing in it. Pretty much they explored more of his life and what impacted him and how he inspired aspiring college students and writers. It was good, nonetheless, however, there were stuff that us hardcore TZ fans would already know, but it was well made and still informative. I would love to rewatch it again..
