What is your favorite of Serling's narrations?

For me it is the closing narration of "Walking Distance". Its so good, and it really comforted me years ago when I was feeling down about my waning youth.

For me it's the intro to "The Obsolete Man."

Closing narration to "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street": "...There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices--to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own--for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone."

I almost picked that one too!

reply

That one was brilliant.

It’s honestly really tough to find a narration I don’t care for. Hell, even “The Mighty Casey” is a standout in that sense. I may have another next week or next month, but for now – today – this is my favorite: “The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.”

Never was a big fan of "Dead Man's Shoes" but I really like the opening: "Nathan Edward Bledsoe, of the Bowery Bledsoes, - a man once, a spectre now. One of those myriad modern-day ghosts that haunt the reeking nights of the city in search of a flop, a handout, a glass of forgetfulness. Nate doesn't know it, but his search is about to end, because those shiny new shoes are going to carry him right into the capital - of The Twilight Zone."

Mine was the time when he appeared out of nowhere at the end of the episode and spoke pulling his lips tightly back against his teeth.

reply

I think I've seen that one.

reply

I have too now that you mention it - numerous times.
