Gregory West is such a monster

Burning those who displease him.

I probably would be every bit the tyrant West is.
Then again, is West even actually burning real people? Are we instead glimpsing into the mind of a writer as he goes through the process of separating the wheat from the chaff? In creating anything I suppose we all have to be a little merciless in what we spare and what we don't.

If I recall, it was Gregory's "wife" who tossed the tape into the fire, after he decided he was not going to. The bit with him burning Rod's tape was clearly just an in-show joke. Even Rod was just amused about it. From the narrative of the show, he can only destroy what he has created himself - and they are arguably not real to begin with, though they obviously think they are. I'd hardly say this qualifies him as a "monster", not that it's any big deal if some people think he is.

There you’ve hit upon the key: It wasn’t Gregory but rather Victoria West who chucked the tape into the fire. Remember the last bit of dialogue between the two before the poof? “I told you years ago my dear… Well, of course I remember that- but I never dreamed you were serious!” (I’m paraphrasing here, but the point is crystal clear.) If the episode is anything it’s a rather clever restatement of that old saying “Be careful what you wish for – you just might get it!”
