BEWARE OF ANOTHER RIPOFF - THESE GUYS ARE CROOKS

Don't trust these crooks who sell bootleg DVD's. I've been ripped off so many times! The DVD's don't play. They have few if any episodes and are sometimes blank! You'll never get your money back.

reply

Several months ago, I bought all 147 episodes on ioffer.com for under $40. Most of the episodes were fine. (See my review on the Classic TV board.)

reply

I just paid big bucks for all 147 episodes. I haven't seen them yet but when I do I'll post a reveiw here.

reply

Some played good, others were unplayable. They seemed to get worse each disc. Season one was ok. Later episodes unplayable. I'd still like to collect all 147 episodes.

reply

Shout! just put the whole series out on DVD. FYI.

reply

I guess it's been out for awhile but my wife ordered the entire series from Amazon for me! I've hoped this would come out for years now, thought it never would. Since these are coming from Amazon I'm hoping they will be good quality and not like the nightmares I've seen in these messages.

The Shout release is legitimate and is great quality, also Amazon doesn't sell bootlegs.

Those posts in this thread from 2009 and 2010 where made before the legitimate Shout release and the ones they were talking about were bootleg DVDs. Any post that mentions Ioffer.com is talking about bootlegs. That's all they sell.

I've owned the Shout Factory release for over a year. It's great.

Thank you for convincing me I'm not nuts!! I watched this on Nick At Nite in the '90s
& specifically remember 5 seasons (1959-1964). Everywhere I read about
this show now, though, it always says 1959-1963.
What happened to the 5th season??

reply

Season 1 - 1959
Season 2 - 1960
Season 3 - 1961
Season 4 - 1962
Season 5 - 1963

reply

I guess I'm still confused. Almost everywhere I look, there are only 4 seasons referred to, ending in June 1963 & totaling 147 episodes. If the fifth season began in 1963, did it run after that time? How long was it supposed to have been? Maybe I really am crazy, because I swear I remember seeing the airing of episodes dated 1964 at the end. A few places refer to the fifth season as consisting of the reunion TV movies (which, I believe, were done in the '80s, so that would hardly make sense). The show often addressed hot button issues of the time, so I'm wondering if a season has been hidden or locked up or something. Am I some kind of conspiracy nut, is it just my imagination or am I making any sense at all?

reply

No, 'Dobie' only ran 4 years. Bob Denver (Maynard G Krebs) was already signed up and playing Gilligan in 1963, the year Kennedy was shot.

reply

Oh, good point. If you look carefully in the background during the Gilligan opening credits, you can see an American flag at half mast -- that was for Kennedy.

In regards to Cookieman108's incorrect seasonal list above, it should read

Season 1 - (fall)1959 to (early summer)1960
Season 2 - (fall)1960 to (early summer)1961
Season 3 - (fall)1961 to (early summer)1962
Season 4 - (fall)1962 to (spring)1963

Series began in the fall and ended the spring/early summer of the next year, so season 1 beginning fall of 1959 ended in early summer 1960 and season 2 beginning in fall 1960 ended in early summer 1961, etc.

As others have already said, there were only Four seasons of Dobie Gillis.

Here is the correct episode guide and air dates list on this website below:
