We Want The DVD!!!!!
Anyone know if this is ever coming out on DVD??
shareI just got it on DVD and I getting ready to watch it now. Will let everyone know about the quality of the DVDS and how to get copies soon
shareWhere did you get it? Is it generally available?
shareI got it via ioffer. All but one episode are of perfect quality.
Do they have other copies or was this the only one?
shareI downloaded all 39 episodes off of a torrent site that specializes in putting up obscure tv shows, I've gotten episodes of "The Loner" "Assignment Underwatter" "87th Precinct" and other rarities off of there!
We can DO IT ALLLL DAY LONG, (We'll have to pay more for the light bill if we do it at night!)
Could you tell me the name of the site? Either here or via private message. Thanks very much!
shareIn general the sets you buy are illegal bootleg copies provided by second hand dealers who claim series are in public domain but really aren't. I'm not trying to sound rough but in general that's what it is. Bourbon Street Beat is owned by Warner Brothers but because of "music rights" issues will probably never come out on DVD because WB would have to go through to each estate and clear the rights. It's a lot more complicated process then just shoving episodes in DVD.
Years ago these shows aired on stations and were recorded and those are the copies that now exist but there is no "official" retail and WB is very protective of their programs and try to keep the items pulled off of websites like eBay or Ioffer.
I have lots of these sets as bootleg quality is better then nothing but just don't ignore the aspect of what it really is.
WB has problems with most of their detective shows because of the music so they release some of their westerns but I wouldn't hold my breath for any detective series from the 1950s and early 60s.

Why would WB have so much more trouble clearing the rights on these shows than they do with their Westerns (Cheyenne, Sugarfoot, Bronco---all now released)?
shareWhen these shows (BSB, 77 Sunset Strip, Surfside 6 etc,) aired in their day, they were very trendy and had a number of popular songs/music of the day present as part of the audio.
In the half-century plus that has elapsed since that time, for a number of these songs, the legal owners have changed and WB is no longer the owner.
Hence, the issue/dilemma in releasing the material such as in DVD format.
Sorry, just wanted to add one more comment to the preceding.
Obviously, for the Westerns this situation does not apply, as there is no copyrighted music content to worry about. So no problems releasibg those to DVD.
I think what they do sometimes is change background music for something contemporary which makes the shows sound really dumb if you recall the original music. "Memphis Beat" is a good show that I believe is held up because of music rights.
