Tony Curtis in nice France

I have just come back from a "Conversation with Tony Curtis" here in Nice France which was organized by Cinémathèque de Nice , Mr. Curtis still amazing for his age or any age really , he was very fun and very chatty , his great voice.

He was speaking a little about the making of The vikings and other films (perhaps this is largely known ) but he was saying that the actors/ extras on the set of The Vikings were given US 100 to grow their beards for the picture all accept Mr.Douglas the only one clean shaved since he was the producer etc also that the crew went on strike for a while something he didnt know for what , but then Kirk Douglas comes along and does what he does best.

Anyway just a little trivia etc

Great Night and Great to see a screen legend

If you want to know more about the strike by the Viking 'extras', Kirk Douglas talks about it in his Ragman's Son book. From memory (so it could be wrong, as it was a few years ago) I think he was saying that they'd filmed most of it apart from one main scene. The extras apparently held out til near the end of the shoot and then asked for a pay rise, thinking that he would have to give in or re-shoot all the scenes with new people (allegedly!!!) But don't take my word for it, have a look at his book!
