Star Trek Klingons must be based on this film

First, thanks to This TV for broadcasting the movie. I've never seen it before, which is amazing since its a good movie with great action and production values.

So much of the film touches on cultural elements later borrowed by Gene Roddenberry for the Klingon characters in star trek that I'm sure he saw the movie before writing it all down. Uncanny similarities.

Check it out if you haven't seen the Vikings before. Great movie.

now that you mention it, the Vikings DO seem a basis for Klingons.

My friends and I have referred to Klingons as "Space Vikings" for years.

The similarities are uncanny.

Dogs have owners, Cats have staff!

Especially if you consider the Klingon's version of heaven, which they call "Sto-vo-Kor." It is described pretty much exactly like Valhalla.

I always thought that the Klingons resembled more that of the Japanese Samurai in their culture and warrior code, than that of the Vikings. I could be wrong though.

you could compare the Klingons to pretty much any warrior class throughout history, though the Klingons are a more honest portrayal than most of the Viking/Samurai/etc movies(thanks largely to the longevity of the ST series).
