Funny bits

This has to be one of my favourite films of all time - what's your favourite 'funny bit'? The humour in it is something that still tickles me.

Mine is:

When Egbert is telling Ragnar and Einar about an horrific English torture and Ragnar says to Einar "You see! The English are civilised!"

the funny bit for me was when eric saves morgana and the tells her that she has to help row. the look on his face is hilarius. its so funny when he just up and rips her shirt so she can row.

I like the bit where Egbert has just arrived in the Viking village and Ragnar tells Einar to 'teach him our ways' or whatever. Notice that Einar gives Egbert a nice big smack in the bum before he runs off! Always cracks me up...

You said it best bro!

Bunch of savages in this town!

I just saw this movie for the first time and that made me howl. First I thought it was funny when Morgana says she can't row because her bodice is not too tight and Eric says "What's a bodice". But then when the maid says that I just about died of laughter.

I love when, in the rowboat, after Eric rips Morgana's dress, the lady with her, Bridgette-i think that was her name- says "Mine's not too tight!"

It cracks me up every time.

When they test the wifes faith by throwing axes at her:

"What happens if he misses both the girl and the braids?"
"Three misses and we drown him, haha!"

Einar is drunk and decides to go out to the boat where Morgana is being held captive and have his way with her. He gets there and....

Morgana: If you touch me, I'll kill myself.

Einar (throws down his sword in front of her): There's the sword to do it with.

When Eric is up to his neck in water, about to drown. "The Gods will save you" (or something to that effect). After much praying to the gods, they cut Eric loose.

Guess the gods weren't paying attention, Eric.

When Eric has had his hand cut off and afterwards his arm looks longer than it did before.

Maybe that's why Toby Stephens decided to forgo that bit of realism! -Hard to make a realistic decapitated limb without actually decapitating it (unless of course, we're talking about castration).

PS: Funny Bit
Morgana: "Whatever you do will be on your conscience!"
Einar: Looks askance, "Aye, it will be on my conscience."

I thought when I heard Morgana say that about his conscience. I thought what Conscience, he doesn't have a conscience, he is a barbarian. It was an absurd thought on her part to think that.

reply

I liked Aelle's line to Morgana along the lines of "The last thing I would want is for you to think me cruel!" just before chopping Erik's hand off!

I love when Einar brings Morgana back on the longship and Ragnar says let's see her, and Einar pulls that sail back to reveal the beautiful Janet Leigh and he says something to the effect of "She's like an old crow with all the feathers plucked out". It is such a funny line and a revealing one too as it gives a hint to the viwerer as to what sort of woman Ragnor would prefer!

Love the scene where Eric has rescued Morgana and tells her to row and she cannot because her "bodice is too tight". Eric asks what a bodice is and when she tells him he rips it open only for Morgana's hand maid to say "My bodice isn't too tight". It's such a funny little moment in a scene of high drama as the rest of the Vikings are chasing them.

I also like the couple of humorous times that Ragnor makes comments about Einar's "pretty face" being all ruined. It's real Viking father and son stuff!

This film is in my top five, I love it. It has everything from a great plot, great acting, humour, beautiful photography and beautiful music. What more could you want?

Hail Ragnor's Beard!

I've seen this movie every now and then, but I just saw it in its entirety for the first time. I enjoyed it and it was indeed funny in many parts.

Hail to Ragnar!

Welcome to my Nightmare- Freddy Krueger

I thought Morgana's purple dress with the conical bosoms were funny.

Maybe not funny but memorable to me -- when Kitala is reading the runes to Eric and tells him he will meet a woman who will change his life. Eric eagerly asks if this woman will love him and Kitala says "love and hate are two horns on the same goat". I use that line all the time!
