Vulvage

While watching Party Girl tonight--in a theater, by the way, though unfortunately with a mono print--I found myself highly impressed by the amount of vulvage displayed by Cyd Charisse in her two dance numbers. I assume that in 1958 her narrow-crotched outfits would have been considered at least somewhat shocking; in fact, such outfits might even be considered slightly shocking today if they were to be worn in a film by a star of her stature.

The only thing that bothered me about her outfits was my unavoidable awareness that she must have had to do some serious side-trimming in order to wear them, so that when naked she would have had that horrible late-20th-/early-21st-century "landing strip" look, rather than looking like a properly-muffed 1950s woman. If I had been her husband at the time of the shooting, I think I would have refused to have relations with her until she was grown out again. I'm old-school when it comes to pubic hair.

Just finished watching "Party Girl" on TCM. Any straight man worthy of the designation would have relations with Cyd Charisse regardless of the shape of her pubes. I doubt Tony Martin minded.

Cyd Charrise was a magnificent dancer -- Charrise and Martin were used to the grooming of dancers for 1950s costumes. There are several director's notes from Singin in the Rain titled "Cyd's Crotch" and even with that, a cut/edit in the Broadway Rhythm dance number. A magnificent dancer and a magnificent woman!

Wow. Withholding sex to punish her for expressing her style preferences on her own body, instead of submitting to yours?

I'm thinkin' Cyd didn't miss much, not being married to you.
