My fave Jean Simmons movie

I love Jean Simmons; she is so beautiful, charming and regal. This is by far my favorite movie of hers. She has great chemistry with not only Gregory Peck, but also with everyone else in the cast.

She was great in this movie. I loved her on the miniseries North and South as well.

Very appealing in this role, her casting fit well to me in this western. Not a particularly fave actress of mine. She was pretty alluring as that young native girl in 'Black Narcissus'.

She's a darling in this movie, isn't she? I think my favorite scenes with her are actually two where she has little or no dialogue: when she's debating with herself to sell Big Muddy to Jim, or when (Spoilers? )

she starts crying after Buck and his father leave after Buck had attempted to rape her. She let those eyes of hers and some great body language do the talking in both those scenes, and I love her for that.

She is lovely in this but I think my favourite film of her's is The Clouded Yellow. That must have been about her last British film before Hollywood sucked her in.

Spartacus for me. She's really beautiful in that. But , then, she illumuminated the screen of any movie she was in. I'm always slightly surprised that she wasn't a bigger name, or in more movies, with her looks and talent.

Watching The Big Country right now--
and agree--for me too Spartacus was the favorite role of Simmons...
read that she had pretty severe drinking problem when her career stalled--maybe that was one reason she failed to get strong parts and went into doldrums...

I more or less agree with this assessment. It's a tie between TBC and The Robe for me. In both films, she portrays a beautiful woman of strong moral character and conviction with a firm devotion to the men(Peck in TBC, Burton in TR) her character loves.

I think of all Peck's leading ladies, Miss Simmons had the strongest chemistry with him IMHO. They just seem so right for each other. It's interesting to imagine how Roman Holiday would've turned out if she had not dropped out of that role and been replaced by Audrey Hepburn who she seemed very similar to in many ways.

Loved her in SPARTACUS, ELMER GANTRY, and many others.
