Who do you think fathered Buck
Buck's and the Major's striking blue eyes make me wonder if maybe the feud started because the Major and Mrs Hannassay had something going on back in the day.

shareBuck and the Major may both have "striking blue eyes," but those are traits held in common between Chuck Connors (Buck) and Charles Bickford (Major Terrill) and the two aren't related that we know of.
I personally think Rufus was, indeed, Buck's real father but that Buck had grown up to be a big disappointmant, (thus, "Before you were born, I did!")
I also think that, in spite of everything, Rufus loved his eldest son Buck the most. Buck was "the problem child" and the one who needed the most parenting among his brothers. Rufus, after killing Buck, is grief stricken to the point that he was now ready to possibly lay down his life in a showdown with the Major to put an end to the Terrill-Hannasey war.
Whatever you do, DO NOT read this sig--ACKKK!!! TOO LATE!!!
Rufus was Buck's real father. The "striking blue eyes" is a ridiculous reason to think Major Terrel fathered him. In any case, did you see Rufus' wife? The Major has an eye for a pretty woman (Jean Simmons)-- he wouldn't have bothered with Rufus' Plain Jane wife.

Apparently, this thread's participants have forgotten that Rufus himself had "striking blue eyes."
Presuming you next see the film letterboxed, check their shared closeups when Rufus forces Buck's hands off his throat during their struggle. There's not a brown eye on the screen.
Most great films deserve a more appreciative audience than they get.
My dad had green eyes. My brother and I both have brown eyes. It doesn't mean anything.
shareI think you are being over the top.
A scenario like that would make Rufus hate Major more than the other way around.
Rufus in his speech at the house party explains the rivalry. The Major grew Ladder by forcing people to want to sell out. Rufus would not do that.
What a stupid post
