First depiction of Death?

On the wikipedia for the Grim reaper it says this film set the standard portrayal of Death. Does anyone know if this is the first depiction of death with the black cloak?

Well, there's Fritz Lang's 1921 classic Der Müde Tod (The Weary Death), a.k.a. Destiny. There Death does wear a black cloak, but not a hood, if I remember well.

I thought of the exact same thing. Both great movies!

It's not over, everybody betrayed me! I'm fed up with this world!

There is Alberto's Casella's 1924 play, La Morte in Vacanza which became Death Takes a Holiday. Both on stage and in the 1934 screen adaptation, Death appeared as a normal man until the final scene when he wears a black, hooded cloak.

There may be many more, but this is a particularly good film (Frederick March) that I recommend to those who've not seen it.
