Getting dogs to act

I watch Mon Oncle and Les Vacances De M. Hulot every year or so.

I have just had my annual dose.

These films are so joyful. They cause fatal fits of laughter every time I see them and you notice more and more each time you see them.

Monsieur Jacques Tatischeff I offer an eternal salute to you and your creations.

But does anyone know any details about the dogs, horses and donkeys and their trainers used in the films?

Mon Oncle - such sublime dog acting - how was it done? The matching master and dog outfit with Monsieur Arpel, then running with the wild dogs...

I work animals in films and was very impressed with the dogs.It was very fine work on the part of the trainer along with well prepared animals.Only one dog was not happy and was dragged along which was the only flaw.I could find no clue to the trainer and my netflix copy had no credits at all

The dog growling at that grizzly-looking fish head poking out of Hulot's shopping bag is one of the funniest sequences in the movie. The way that Tati shot his films, he had the patience to wait until he got the right shot he wanted. I think the dog scenes happened naturally without training them.

I don't know the answer. But I just want to say the dog scenes are really charming. In the UK, Petplan are using the 'Mon Oncle' music in their TV adverts now. With scenes of dogs running around. I think that it's a nice tribute to the film.
