Anyone think the witch scene was freaky??

I remember seeing this film many, many years ago, and the scene that still sends chill down my spine is the scene where the witch is spinning silk in the woods. I found it extremely freaky, and distressing. Does anyone also feel that this scene was really freaky?

Oh yeah. The forest spirit can't help but send a shiver down my spine. Classic memorable moments that never fail to unnerve, no matter how many times I see it.

that's the idea

...other macbeth adaptations don't capture the weirdness of the weird sisters, but this "spirit" is spine-chilling.

it just proves kurosawa's great ability as a director

Especially the later scene where Mifune goes back into the forest to ask the
the spirit whether or not he would win the pending battle.
Kurosawa places Mifune in the background in front of some trees, and in the background the spirit dashes across the screen,
but he briefly stops and looks straight at you. So freaky.

it's masterful use of black and white - the way they shoot light in the spirit's face, making it look ghostly and emphasizing its features. Same thing with Miki's ghost.

Yea the scene is pretty freaky, especially when she widens her eyes near the end. Scenes like these make you realize why many directors still love black & white over colour cinema.

I actually found the creepiest scene to be when Asagi goes into the closet(maybe it was another room with no light) to get the sake. There was something especially eerie about that. Reminded me of something Hitchcock would do.

I consider Throne Of Blood to be my favorite Kurosawa movie - and the 2 reason i always site are both appearances of the witch and also the moving forest scene.
