nah, it's a literary-adaptation historical drama.
Not enough action to be considered an actioner and even though it's pretty thrilling, it isn't a "thriller".

shareWhoa. I made that comment over seven years ago. Having rewatched the film several times since then (and gotten a lot wiser!) I'd agree that it is a horror movie.
I don't put much stock in genre labels and categorisation but, nevertheless, it can be tagged as horror - supernatural horror and psychological horror.
It's one of Kurosawa's most explicitly terrifying movies and it's deeply unnerving. Throne of Blood definitely gets my vote as the best film adaptation of Macbeth and there are so many lingering disturbing images and ideas that it'd be remiss to not refer to it as a horror...
