Feb 2006 UK DVD release

For anyone interested, according to PLAY.COM, 'Shrinking man' gets an anamorphic W/S release in the UK on the 6th Feb' 2006, along with 'Revenge of the Creature', 'It came from outer space' & 'Tarantula'.
Apologies if I'm just relaying old news.

Anything on a U.S. release date?

reply

Not that I know of, mate.
Play. com have a Region 1 site ( playusa.com ) which might give you some more info? Though nothing came up in the search I tried.
Admittedly it's rare us Brit's get anything on disc before you guys in the states. I'm still waiting on a R2 release of the original 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' which you guys have had for ages. 'Swings & roundabouts' I guess..

Hey! Why wait all this time for a R2 original 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'?
It was released 6 years ago in USA, and an excellent edition too!
Go get a Region Free DVD player and enjoy everything released on either side of Atlantic!

It's not the player so much, it's my telly. Has to be 100hz (?!) to play NTSC discs, but my TV is 50hz and spits any NTSC signal out as a flickering black n' white image.
Hold on? I guess that wouldn't really matter then with 'Body Snatchers'!
(Re : all that 100hz/50 hz stuff, no, I ain't got any idea what it means either! Just what Philips customer services told me.)
Still, I don't have much luck with telly's of late, so when this one blows up on me (countdown began the day I bought it) I'll make sure I get something more compatible.

Re : Incredible shrinking man. Only £7.99 from Play.com & out on monday. No special features listed (yet) but an anamorphic transfer for a film that old is always a bonus.

You can go out with RGB signal, if your tv accepts it.
Now many DVD players have automatic conversion NTSC to PAL ans so you can watch USA movies smoothly.

A mate of mine basically told me my previous explanation of why I can't watch R1 discs is, well... s**t. He's a bit of a nerd with that kinda stuff, so perhaps it is possible?
Re : RGB. Yeah my telly supposedly does output an RGB signal, but getting the bugger to do it is another story! Prefers to spit it out with a lovely green tint. Meaning I had to change from scart to S-video to watch DVD's.
Sigh.... See what I mean about me & tv's?

Anyway, its an old school 32inch widescreen with a tube that takes up half the room so I'm already out of love with it. Gonna have to start saving the coppers for a up-to-date 'wafer thin' plasma, & hopefully then all this PAL/NTSC stuff won't matter.
Cheers for the advice though!

I watched the new DVD release last night. Very good, crisp anamorphic picture (filled my widescreen nicely with no stretching) - very strong blacks with no artefacting. The sound, although mono, is excellent also, crisp and clear. I'd have liked to have seen extras such as a commentary but it's good just to see this again after so many years. Essential purchase. £7.99 on play.
