Cult Classic - Special effects for its time

I found this movie to be excellent for its time.

Great special effects (the spider scene particularly)

Anyone else see the movie? And if so what did you think?

I liked it, great effects by Westmore and screenplay by Mathesson. A true 50s sci-fi classic. The spider scene was my favorite.

It is fantastic! Best moment for me has to be the clsoing moments when he goes outside and comments on how his size no longer matters, he is simply a part of the universe now no matter how small he gets.

Its very spiritual.

i agree with nashmatthew, it´s a sentimentally and dignified ending, although i would have preferred when his wife saved him at the last moment.

But all told it´s a fantasic movie.

Personally, I find the ending to be very fitting, unique, and with a touch of philosophy to it. Any other ending, I feel, would not have been as meaningful. In fact, the second half really carries really carries the movie; his former life (including his wife) becomes an afterthought.

I agree with nashmatthew that size doesn't matter. His body may well continue to shrink relentlesly, finally shrinking out of existence physically, but his spirit and soul never changed and it was the ultimate human belief in survival against all odds. I left the cinema happy in the knowledge that Scott Carey continued to exist, but in new dimensions as he went on endlesly shrinking from one level down to the next.....infinity is limitless. It's just a pity he had to undertake that adventure alone...I think I'd have been happy to accompany him.

this movie was overwhelming with passionate, i remember watching this movie on tv in the sci-fi channel when i was 10 i thought it would end by his wife saving him in the flood where he is hanging on under her feet in the stairs but its sad how i find out how it really ends, but the moral of what he said is a good lesson to learn about life

re. special effects: the sets are terrific. The dollhouse furniture, the outsize basement junk, the clothing he wears that looks like childrens and later dolls.
The process photography mostly isn't up to the task (when it's obvious it's really glaring), but the involving, quality storytelling has me ignore any technical shortcomings (pardon the pun).
