DVD COLLECTION TO BE RE-RELEASED!

The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection, Volumes 1 and 2, which include "The Incredible Shrinking Man," will be re-released by Universal May 13, 2008.

This means the vultures who stockpiled on these collections when they were originally released to sell them on ebay and Amazon at exorberant prices — especially the first volume — will soon be out of business.

This information was reported at www.thedigitalbits.com. The report states:

Okay, we've got some interesting new announcements for you today. First up, Universal has set The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection: Volumes 1 & 2 for release on DVD on 5/13 (SRP $59.98). The set will feature 10 films on 6 discs, including Tarantula, The Mole People, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Monolith Monsters, Monster on the Campus, Dr. Cyclops, Cult of the Cobra, The Land Unknown, The Deadly Mantis and The Leech Woman. All will be in their original aspect ratios, and the widescreen films will be anamorphic.

As I've said on posts for all these films, this set is great news, but the fact that Universal is charging $60 for it, vs. only $40 for the original two sets combined, just shows that in the vulture department they're not all that better than the ebay crowd. To quote Bogie in "Casablanca" -- "I don't mind a parasite; I object to a cut-rate one."

It's not like you have to pay the MSRP. Amazon has it as a pre-order for $41.99 (and will probably be cheaper in some stores or on other sites). Also, I think it's kind of funny that so many poor fools have paid over $100 for the first volume on eBay.

No, but the point is that Universal is setting an MSRP 50% higher than their one for the two original sets combined, which doesn't speak well of them. I think the reason they're re-releasing them is because they see the kind of additional profit they can make precisely because of the "poor fools" who've paid exhorbitant prices on ebay or Amazon marketplace. They could have released this set everywhere in the first place instead of playing their "exclusivity" games with Best Buy, then yanking the sets from the market after only a month. Personally, I have no complaints: I bought both sets at BB with no problem. But overall Universal's marketing strategy is another example of their disregard for their customers.
