They should have had a child in the story

Wouldn't it have been interesting if they had a little child, say 5 years old (seeing they had been married for 6.5 years when he began shrinking). We could see the relationship dynamic he had with say his son and as he got shorter, the son would no longer listen to him and then one day the son is taller than his Dad and starts playing with him like he's a doll. The possibilities with that added family member would have been limitless and have added a fascinating twist to an already sad and horrific story.

As an alternate plot, I like your one, also, OP.

In the book, they do have a 5 year old daughter. But would be interesting to see the disappearing height advantage Scott has to his child. Hope they show this in the remake.

The exclusion of the daughter in no way affected the story. Her inclusion might have altered the focus on Carey and slowed down the film, but that is a matter of preference. Personally, I don't miss her in the movie.
