I guess I'll have to be the skunk at the picnic. The ending was fine as far as its content is concerned, although calling it Shakespearean is a bit much. My problem is that the ending evokes an image of the writers sitting around smoking, drinking coffee and muttering "How are we going to end this $%#@* thing?" The ending has the feel of being tacked on because the film ran out of time or a more complicated ending (I thought spider venom was going to be the antidote) was just too much work. Even if the ending was true to the book, a movie viewer deserves an ending congruent with the rest of the movie. After all it is science fiction/horror not a morality play.
