Hard to Rate

I find movies like The Giant Claw hard to rate. I know it's bad but I love this kind of bad. To me it's an 8 but in reality probably a 4. Anyone else go through this?

I think this is why some movies you need to totally throw out the rating when gauging how good of a movie it may be. Cult movies definitely fall into this category.

Yes, I know what you mean, wilchbla. That's why I really don't like or use any rating systems. In theory that means you're rating every film on the same grid, but in reality we're more likely rating each of them in their own contexts.

I like this film too and don't think it's quite as bad as most people make out. But how can you really rate anything on a simplistic 1-10 scale?

reply

Yeah I know what you mean, I just looked and realised I gave it a 4 but I love the hell out of it and upped it to a loveable 8. I rate from an enjoyment point of view, if I watch the same films over and over and still enjoy them then they deserve a high rating

The funny thing is that in this particular picture the acting was quite good. The acting, cinematography, music even the sets where quite good for a budget that this picture had.
True the bird was laughable and the story out there, but all in all not bad at all.

I gave it a little thought and I'm willing to put it on the table for comment.
IMDB could simply open the rating scale from -10 ... 0 ... 10. As long as the 'rater' is advised he is judging the movie between two extremes ... '0' being a movie of no value and '10' being the greatest movie since the invention of sliced bread (which is the current system). Then, the rater could also give the movie a negetive rating, if he chose, to signify a movie that was so bad but had cult qualities.
In the end IMDB could, as it presently does, tampper the effect of the rogue voter through its wghtd average.
