My Review

If anyone is interested in reading, I wrote a review of A Face in the Crowd on my blog.

Here's the link: http://guywithamovieblog.blogspot.com/2016/02/a-face-in-crowd.html

I'd love to hear any and all comments!

Who would you have cast in place of Andy Griffith?

Going with choices the same age (or very close to it) as Griffith, I think all of these actors could have been far better in the role:

Paul Newman
George Kennedy
Hal Holbrook
Donald O'Connor
Jack Lemmon
Peter Sellers
Harry Dean Stanton
Robert Shaw
George C. Scott

Of course, I think Griffith could have been better, too, if he had been reeled in a bit more by a director who knew the limitations of his leading man.

Sorry, sure can't say that I agree with you, especially on guys like Holbrook, O'Connor ( O'Connor? ), Lemmon, Sellers, Scott or Shaw. Probably not Newman, either. Perhaps Kennedy or Stanton might be able to pull it off but still not as well as I feel Andy Griffith did.

P.S. I don't get your ' Started, but Never Finished ' list. Are you saying that these films weren't interesting enough for you to watch all the way through?

I think they're all better actors (some are far, far better) than Griffith, so I don't think they'd have a problem with the role of Lonesome.

O'Connor might be a stretch. I've only seen him in Singin' in the Rain (which I watched twice recently) and he really impressed me.

That's exactly right. For whatever reason, I just wasn't interested in completing them. In most cases, I give a movie 40-60 minutes and if I'm not engaged, I'll shut it off. There are too many different films I want to see to waste time on something I'm not enjoying.
