All in one great year ...

A Face in the Crowd, 12 Angry Men, Paths of Glory, The Sweet Smell of Success.

And the Oscars went to ... The Bridge on the River Kwai!

"Madness! Madness!".

Don't leave out Peyton Place now.

Also Nights of Cabiria, Wild Strawberries and The Seventh Seal.

A great year indeed - though I'd probably still give the Oscar to Kwai, any of the others you mentioned would be worthy too.

Which would be your choice for 1957's best?

Tough one, for sure. I'm torn between 3, myself: A Face In The Crowd, Peyton Place, and 12 Angry Men. It’s a shame, too, that Andy Griffith didn’t get nominated at least – he was great, and A Face In The Crowd just happened to mark his film debut.

Kwai was great, of course, although I'm still not sure it deserved Best Picture. Myself I'd have been tempted to vote for The 3 Faces Of Eve - so I guess that means I'm torn between 4 films altogether.
