Transport of Sick and Wounded

At the conclusion of the celebration the evening before the British prisoners are to be marched to their next project Nicholson mentions that the sick and wounded will be transported via the train. Yet, the train reaches the encampment but does not stop to pick up additional passengers. Did I miss interpret something?

I believe he said "BY train" not "by THE train" (meaning that particular train, which carried high military officials, etc.)
