Google Maps - Bridge On The River Kwai ?

If you Google "Bridge on the River Kwai" and go to maps you go to a bridge in the middle of what looks to be a fairly well developed area with some larger buildings and a metal bridge ... but in Thailand.

Why is this written up as it if it in Burma, when it is in Thailand ... or was there some boundary change since WWII that put this area on Thai control?

Simple answer: it's not.

The railroad, which goes through several different countries, is indeed called the Burmese Railroad by both sides. But that's the name of the railroad, not the name of the country. The particular country where the film's events take place is called Siam, i.e. Thailand.
