The Japanese are moving the same amount of earth as the British?

At the building conference meeting, Nickerson suggests that to get the work done as quickly as possible, he'll need the Japanese to pitch in as well. And that they'll move 2 yards of earth a day, just like the British soldiers are doing.

That seems highly unlikely. There's what, like 500 or so POWs at that camp - a battalion or so. Not all of them, but some significant number of them are working on moving earth, while others are laying track, constructing the bridge, etc.

It doesn't take a battalion, or even a company, to guard 500 guys. A platoon maybe. 30 or 40 guys. And some of those 30 or 40 guys still have to remain on guard duty even while the others are doing work. How can significantly less than 30 or 40 guys do the same work as a number far higher than that? That doesn't make sense.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

That's two yards per day per person.

Ah. That makes sense. Thanks.
