So what is the Moral of the story? What is the point.
It is a great movie but I am missing something. At the end of the day its a man realizing he was both right and wrong about the bridge.

shareYou really have 3 narratives going. William Holden's character to complete his mission at all costs to destroy the bridge. The more complex is you have Hayakawa's character trying to do his job at all costs to save his honor. Guiness's character is so by the book that he ends up committing treason. Even though Guiness is a the prisoner he ends up breaking the Colonel due to his twisted sense of duty. You see cracks in Guiness as he laments on the bridge his entire career in the army. In the end he realizes his sense of duty served the enemy when he should have been serving his country.
Dignity under pressure, living by a code, perseverance during struggles, and losing sight of the end goal.
