Greatest Last Lines in Movie History

I nominate this one. Can anyone else think of any others?

"Madness. Madness..."

just to add one of the greatest last lines, not mentioned yet:

“It ain't like it used to be… but it'll do”

(The Wild Bunch)

The alternate ending of the much underrated "The beach" contains also a very, very impressive monologue.

And, finally, although not the last line, but still one of my favourite reflections in a movie:

We're all faced throughout our lives with agonizing decisions, moral choices. Some are on a grand scale, most of these choices are on lesser points. But we define ourselves by the choices we have made. We are, in fact, the sum total of our choices. Events unfold so unpredictably, so unfairly, Human happiness does not seem to be included in the design of creation. it is only we, with our capacity to love that give meaning to the indifferent universe. And yet, most human beings seem to have the ability to keep trying and even try to find joy from simple things, like their family, their work, and from the hope that future generations might understand more.

Boris Karloff's monster in "Bride of Frankenstein" - "We Belong Dead". Or Carl Denhams "It was beauty killed the beast" at the end of the original "King Kong"

In the closing scene to The Roaring Twenties (1939) after the Jimmy Cagney character is shot dead & his female business partner is cradling his dead body in her arms on a public street a policeman walks up to her & asks “What was his business?” & she replies “He used to be a big shot.”

Actually, the last line in MALTESE FALCON is Ward Bond's "Huh?" responding to "The stuff dreams are made of."

reply

"You bastard!"
"Yes, sir. In my case, an accident of birth. But YOU, sir - you're a self-made man!"

"I am Mr. Shackelford's attorney, Rusty Shackelford, and my client pleads insanity."

It's near enough the end of the movie to be mentioned, from Sam Peckinpah's WWII Eastern front epic 'Cross of Iron':

Captain Stransky: I will show you how a true Prussian officer fights.
Unteroffizier Krüger: Then I will show you, where the Iron Crosses grow.

Frank: Just a man.
Harmonica: An ancient race.

I'm afraid I disagree.
The ending of this film was excellent but the situation spoke for itself.
Lean doesn't treat us with enough respect to get the message. Instead he makes it crystal clear with no ambiguity. I always think films are more elegant if certain things are left unsaid and the madness line is one of them I think. Anyone with half a brain will aware of the meaning of this climax, it didn't need to be verbalised. Great film though.

"Told you I'm never goin' back."

"Yeah..."

"Forget it Jake. It's just Chinatown."

Not actually the last line of NORTH BY NORTHWEST, but it's close...and I love it. Spoken by James Mason:

"That's not very sporting...using real bullets."
