shareApart from the obvious fact this is a 1957 adaptation of a 1902 play, your assumption seems to be based on the modern prejudice that people have zero self-restraint when it comes to sexual matters. Whether the blokes were masturbating or not is speculation, and a quite private matter not fit to be explored in a fictional narrative. We are essentially talking about people who are still to some extent conditioned by the social mores of a little over a century ago, and despite the obvious flip in class roles probably are somewhat retiscent about the idea of trying it on with the women (and vice versa). Quite likely even if the men did, it wouldn't be terribly nice...
