Rewatching this classic

Just rewatching this 1957 classic again. Such a great film with 12 legendary actors. My previous criticism was that it's not realistic enough, i.e. too abbreviated, emotional, etc. compared to an actual jury. And the whole script is based on what ifs about the case, and Henry Fonda whatever else he claims, was in effect the defense in the jury (and very effective one). But these actors carry it into classic status. The Friedkin remake, even though it had great actors too I believe was a failure, as most remakes/reboots are with rare exception.
I mean it was ostensibly about a trial jury, however it was really about a personal emotional situation/conflict and a commentary on the era and setting (1950s NYC). We all know how unjust the so-called justice system can be, but this wasn't really about that, except maybe to make the unintentional point that juries often obviously get it wrong. And this one only got it right because of one great juror.

It feels rather stagey, inevitably so, but it's brilliant entertainment, and has massive re-watch value. Great performances across the board - although Lee J. Cobb slips into ham, he is at least enjoyably so. E.G. Marshall is man of the match, for me.

7 of the 12 went on to long great careers.
