Wow. I don't own it but it's still being shown regularly on TV here. I catch it when I can.

I just got a copy of the complete series on dvd yesterday. I'm not sure I'd recommend binge watching this one though - simply because once you've seen 'em all, that's all there is unless you move along to the later television movies from the 80s and 90s..

What you could do is mix Perry Mason episodes with episodes of The Twilight Zone or Peter Gunn to stretch all three out.

Back in the 80s, when it was on TBS, I probably cycled through the series five or six times. Believe me, once you go through all nine seasons, if you enjoyed them you can watch them again. You'll forget a few of the outcomes, but even the ones you remember are enjoyable. For one thing, Perry and Della and Paul Drake get to be like members of the family ... the branch of the family you actually LIKE. :-) You just enjoy spending time with them. And you'll anticipate favorite scenes and lines, like the witness who indignantly declared, "Murder isn't always the answer to EVERYTHING!" I imagine the writers laughed their asses off when they got that line on camera. LOL

I own the entire series on DVD and really need to cycle through it again. I imagine TBS cut several minutes out of each episode for additional commercials.

You know the really interesting thing is that no matter how many years went by that series never really lost its appeal. I don’t recall seeing it at all in first run because I was less than a year old when the final episode aired in May of 1966, but I definitely remember seeing the reruns after school on local television in the early to middle 70s.

You’re absolutely right – the cast was very much like beloved family members, right down to Arthur Tragg and “Ham” Burger. Even the reboot television movie series worked years later simply because of the gentle familiarity of Raymond Burr and Barbara Hale – nearly 30 years older, but even with the passage of time still the same. It even survived the advent of color with barely a burp.
